The Kongsberg RDIO401S is a versatile remote digital input/output module with integrated relay outputs, specifically designed for marine automation and safety systems. Revision 2.2.0 features enhanced signal processing for high-density monitoring of switches and sensors, alongside dry-contact relay outputs for controlling pumps, fans, and indicators. Built into a compact, vibration-resistant housing, this module is engineered to meet stringent maritime classification standards, providing reliable field-level control within the K-Chief architecture.
Differences from Similar Models
The RDIO401S Revision 2.2.0 is distinguished by its SIL-rated safety capabilities, making it suitable for K-Safe protection systems, whereas the standard RDIO401 (non-S version) is typically reserved for general monitoring. Unlike the older Rev. 1.x hardware, Rev. 2.2.0 provides improved diagnostic feedback for open-circuit and short-circuit detection on the input channels. Additionally, this version incorporates more robust surge protection on the RBus communication lines, offering better resilience against electrical transients common in large vessel power grids.

Operational Tips
- Dual Powering: Always connect both 24 VDC supply terminals to independent power sources to utilize the module’s built-in power redundancy and avoid “Low Voltage” alarms.
- Address Setting: Ensure the rotary switches on the side of the module are set to the correct RBus node ID before powering up; the module only reads the address during its initial boot sequence.
- Relay Ratings: While the relays are rated for switching, ensure inductive loads (like solenoid valves) are equipped with external suppression diodes to prevent back-EMF from interfering with the module’s digital logic.
