The Stahl 9460/12-08-11 is an 8-channel analog input module designed for the IS1+ Remote I/O system, specifically engineered for use in intrinsically safe (Ex i) hazardous areas. This module provides high-resolution digitization of 4–20 mA signals from transmitters and sensors, supporting full HART transparency for remote parameterization and diagnostics. Its compact, hot-swappable design ensures maximum system availability and simplified maintenance in demanding chemical, oil, and gas environments.

Differences from Similar Models
The 9460/12-08-11 is part of the “Blue” intrinsically safe series, distinguishing it from the 9461 series which is designed for non-intrinsically safe signals. Unlike the 4-channel versions (AIM 04), this AIM 08 model doubles the density per slot, significantly reducing the footprint of the Remote I/O station. Furthermore, the “/12” designation indicates a modern hardware revision that offers lower power consumption and improved galvanic isolation between channels compared to the legacy 9460/10 versions, ensuring better signal integrity in electrically noisy environments.
Operational Tips
- Hot-Swapping: This module can be replaced while the system is energized in the hazardous area (Zone 1 or Zone 2) without a “hot work” permit, provided the IS1+ BusRail is intact.
- HART Communication: To utilize HART diagnostics, ensure the field device is powered by the module and that no high-impedance filters are placed in the loop that might clip the digital frequency-shift keying (FSK) signal.
- Shielding: For optimal accuracy, connect the cable shields to the integrated earth rail of the IS1+ station rather than grounding them at the field device to prevent ground loops.
