BENTLY 3500/22M
Product Description
The Bently Nevada 3500/22M Transient Data Interface (TDI) is the primary communication gateway for the 3500 Machinery Protection System. It serves as the bridge between the 3500 rack and the System 1™ diagnostic software. The TDI continuously collects static and dynamic (transient) data from all monitors in the rack, providing the high-resolution information required for advanced machinery diagnostics.
Unlike the older 3500/20 RIM, the 3500/22M features significantly increased processing power and memory. It is capable of capturing “Snapshot” data during machine start-ups, shutdowns, and alarm events, which is critical for root cause analysis. It also manages the rack configuration and provides a centralized point for Modbus integration with a DCS or PLC.

Application Areas
- Predictive Maintenance: Streaming high-fidelity vibration data to System 1 for trend analysis and fault detection.
- Transient Data Capture: Automatically recording orbit, timebase, and spectrum data during turbine coast-downs or trips.
- DCS Integration: Serving as a Modbus gateway to provide machinery health status to the main control room.
- Remote Monitoring: Allowing engineers to access real-time rack data from across a local area network (LAN).

Operating Precautions
- Dedicated Slot: The 3500/22M must be installed in the first slot of the 3500 rack (immediately to the right of the power supplies). It will not function in any other slot.
- Configuration Port: The front-panel USB or serial port is for local configuration only. For permanent monitoring and data streaming, the rear Ethernet port on the I/O module must be used.
- I/O Module Compatibility: The 3500/22M requires a specific I/O module (146031-01 for 10/100 Base-T). Ensure the I/O module matches the processor version to prevent communication “Time-Out” errors.
- Modbus Mapping: When configuring Modbus registers, ensure the “Modbus Address Map” is downloaded to the TDI via the 3500 Rack Configuration Software. Without this map, the DCS will not be able to poll data from the monitors.
