Phase 1: Preparation (15 minutes)

⚠️ Safety Protocol: The FTA-T-02 is the physical interface between your field sensors and the HLAI (High-Level Analog Input) processor. Since this board handles 24 V DC field power, a short circuit during installation can blow system-level fuses. Always isolate the field power before making wiring changes.

Required Items:

  • 3mm Flat-head screwdriver for terminal blocks.
  • Digital Multimeter (to verify 24 V DC loop power).
  • Spare fuses (Honeywell P/N 80363914-001) in case of accidental shorts.

Phase 2: Hardware Installation (10 minutes)

Steps:

  1. Mounting: Snap the HONEYWELL FTA-T-02 into the mounting channel. Ensure the plastic standoffs are securely locked to prevent the board from shifting.
  2. Cable Connection: Connect the 50-pin “I/O Link” cable from the HLAI processor (like an IOP or High-Level AI card) to the keyed header on the FTA.
  3. Field Wiring: Connect your 2-wire or 4-wire transmitters to the numbered terminal blocks (1 through 16).
    • Terminal (+): 24 V DC Supply
    • Terminal (-): Signal Return (1-5 V across internal resistor)

Phase 3: Commissioning (20 minutes)

Validation:

  1. Power Check: Turn on the 24 V DC field power. Measure the voltage at the field terminals—it should be within 22-26 V DC.
  2. Fuse Verification: If a channel shows “Bad PV” (Process Value) on the HMI, check the green LED (if applicable) or pull the tiny glass fuse for that channel to check continuity.
  3. Signal Calibration: Use a 4-20 mA simulator. Inject 4 mA at the FTA terminals and verify that the Honeywell Native Window or Experion Station shows 0% (or the low-scale engineering unit).
  4. Resistor Integrity: In my experience, if the reading is consistently 0, the 250 Ω precision resistor on the FTA-T-02 may have been damaged by a high-voltage surge.
