The MTL 4073 is not a standard analog input safety barrier in the typical sense of a pass-through isolator; rather, it is a single-channel temperature converter. It is designed to accept low-level DC signals from hazardous-area temperature sensors—specifically thermocouples or RTDs—and convert them into a standard 4–20 mA signal for safe-area instrumentation.

  • Primary Function: Converts temperature sensor inputs (thermocouples or RTDs) into a 4–20 mA output signal.
  • Input Compatibility:
    • Thermocouples: Supports eight types (e.g., J, K, T, E, R, S, B, N).
    • RTDs: Supports 2-, 3-, and 4-wire Pt100, Pt500, and Pt1000 sensors.
  • Hazardous Area Rating: Suitable for use with sensors located in Zone 0, IIC, T4–T6 or Division 1 Group A hazardous locations.
