Description

Product Overview

The ProSoft PTQ-PDPMV1 is a PROFIBUS DPV1 Master Network Interface Module designed for Schneider Electric Quantum platform processors. It provides a direct communication interface between a Quantum PLC and PROFIBUS DP/DPV1 field devices, allowing process data and diagnostic information to be exchanged between the PLC and PROFIBUS network.

The module supports PROFIBUS DPV0 and DPV1 communication, including cyclic I/O data and acyclic parameter services. It can communicate with PROFIBUS slave devices such as remote I/O stations, drives, motor starters, instrumentation, and other field devices.

PTQ-PDPMV1 supports standardized PROFIBUS baud rates up to 12 Mbit/s and can handle up to 125 slave devices when repeaters are used. It also provides extended diagnostics, Sync and Freeze commands, alarm handling, Multicast and Broadcast telegrams, and PROFIdrive parameter read/write functions.

For projects using Rockwell Automation ControlLogix, the comparable ProSoft product is the MVI56-PDPMV1 rather than PTQ-PDPMV1. Always verify the PLC platform before installation.

Installation & Configuration

Before installation, confirm that the PLC system is a compatible Quantum platform. PTQ-PDPMV1 is installed as a single-slot module on the Quantum backplane and should normally be located in the local rack with the processor.

Configuration is performed through ProSoft Configuration Builder. The PROFIBUS master configuration defines the network parameters, slave devices, station addresses, baud rate, I/O mapping, diagnostic settings, and other PROFIBUS parameters.

A typical commissioning sequence is:

  1. Install the PTQ-PDPMV1 in the Quantum rack.
  2. Connect the PROFIBUS RS-485 network.
  3. Open the configuration project in ProSoft Configuration Builder.
  4. Configure the PROFIBUS Master parameters.
  5. Add the required PROFIBUS slave devices.
  6. Import or configure the appropriate GSD information.
  7. Define process input and output data mapping.
  8. Download the configuration to the module.
  9. Check the module status and PROFIBUS communication LEDs.
  10. Verify slave diagnostics and process data from the PLC.

For an existing machine, exporting or reusing a known-working configuration can reduce commissioning time.

Application Areas

PTQ-PDPMV1 is useful where a Quantum PLC needs to communicate with an existing PROFIBUS field network.

Typical applications include:

  • Factory automation
  • Process control systems
  • Motor and drive control
  • Remote I/O networks
  • Water and wastewater systems
  • Chemical processing
  • Power and utility systems
  • Packaging machinery
  • Material handling
  • Legacy PROFIBUS system upgrades

It is particularly useful for maintaining existing Quantum installations where replacing the complete PLC architecture would create unnecessary engineering and downtime.

Compatibility Note

PTQ-PDPMV1 is a Quantum platform module. It should not be selected as a direct ControlLogix module simply because a listing describes it as “for ControlLogix.”

For Rockwell Automation ControlLogix systems, ProSoft offers the MVI56-PDPMV1 PROFIBUS DPV1 Master module. The MVI56 version uses the 1756 ControlLogix backplane, while PTQ-PDPMV1 uses the Quantum backplane.

Before purchasing, compare:

  • PLC platform
  • Rack/backplane type
  • PROFIBUS master requirements
  • Existing configuration
  • Firmware/software requirements
  • I/O data mapping
  • Hot Standby requirements

Maintenance & Testing

For replacement or spare-stock applications, inspect the module before installation. Check the housing, connector, terminal/interface area, mounting points, and status LEDs for physical damage.

Recommended checks include:

  • Confirm the complete model number on the nameplate.
  • Inspect the 9-pin PROFIBUS connector.
  • Verify the module is correctly seated in the Quantum backplane.
  • Check the configuration and firmware version.
  • Verify PROFIBUS station addresses.
  • Check master and slave diagnostic information.
  • Confirm stable communication at the selected baud rate.
  • Test process input/output data before returning the system to production.

For a stored spare, keep the module in an ESD-safe package and a clean, dry environment.
