Description
The Triconex 3101 (commonly designated as the MP 3101) is a high-performance, fault-tolerant Main Processor Module manufactured by Triconex (Schneider Electric).
Serving as the central processing “brain” of the Triconex Triple Modular Redundant (TMR) Safety Instrumented System (SIS) platform, the 3101 executes safety logic, handles multi-channel system communication, and coordinates real-time data acquisition for critical infrastructure applications such as emergency shutdown (ESD), fire and gas (F&G) detection, and high-integrity pressure protection systems (HIPPS).

Core Features & Operating Capabilities
- Triple Modular Redundant (TMR) Execution: Utilizes three isolated, parallel processing legs running identical control logic simultaneously, employing hardware voting to guarantee uninterrupted process operations even in the event of a single-channel component failure.
- High-Speed Real-Time Control: Powered by a robust 32-bit RISC processing core capable of executing complex safety algorithms, logic interlocks, and sequence of events (SOE) data logging with microsecond-level precision.
- Continuous Online Self-Diagnostics: Features built-in hardware and firmware diagnostics that monitor processor health, memory integrity, and communication channels continuously without interrupting safety functions.
- Hot-Swap Support: Fully supports online replacement of faulted modules within a powered chassis backplane, maximizing system availability and eliminating unnecessary plant downtime during maintenance.
- Robust Diagnostic Logging: Captures diagnostic metrics, system logs, and fault-handling activities, accessible directly via the dedicated TriStation engineering interface or Modbus telemetry loops.
