Description
The Triconex 3902AX (also designated as 3902A / 3902) is a high-density Analog Output External Termination Panel (ETP) engineered for the Tricon™ Triple Modular Redundant (TMR) Safety Instrumented System (SIS) by Schneider Electric (formerly Invensys / Triconex). Installed in field termination enclosures, the 3902AX serves as the passive physical interface between field actuators (e.g., control valves, I/P transducers, variable speed drives) and the active Tricon Analog Output (AO) modules (such as the 3805E 4–20 mA card) residing in the main or expansion chassis.

- Field Power Isolation & Hazardous Areas: Isolate external 24 V DC loop power supplies prior to landing or removing field wires. Observe hot-work permit requirements when working inside Division 2 / Zone 2 hazardous areas.
- Electrostatic Discharge (ESD) Protection: Though passive, onboard surge suppression networks and precision resistor arrays require static controls. Always wear a grounded ESD wrist strap during handling.
- Multi-Conductor Cable Strain Relief: Verify that system interface cables linking the 3902AX ETP to the Tricon I/O slot are fully seated and secured with retaining latches to avoid signal degradation caused by cabinet vibration.
- Loop Fuse & Resistor Checks: If a specific analog output channel drops to 0 mA or fails to respond, inspect onboard channel fuses and series protection resistors on the ETP board before replacing the chassis I/O module.
