Description

⚙️ Product Overview

The WOODWARD 9907-019 is a low-voltage 2301A electronic load sharing and speed control designed for generator prime movers driven by diesel or gasoline engines, as well as steam or gas turbines.

This model operates from a 20–40 VDC supply and provides speed regulation and load-sharing control for generator applications. The 2301A platform can operate in either isochronous or droop mode, making it suitable for single-generator operation and parallel generator systems.

The 9907-019 is a reverse-acting, single-actuator model with a 0–200 mA actuator output. It is also a CE-approved model within the 9907 series.

⚡ Speed & Load Control

The 2301A control monitors prime-mover speed through a speed-sensing device and controls the actuator to maintain the required engine or turbine speed.

For parallel generator operation, the load-sharing section measures the load carried by the generator and adjusts the prime mover so that generators operating together can share load proportionally.

Selectable speed ranges include:

  • 500–1,500 Hz
  • 1,000–3,000 Hz
  • 2,000–6,000 Hz
  • 4,000–12,000 Hz

The standard factory speed range is 2,000–6,000 Hz. The correct range must be selected for the specific speed sensor and prime mover application.

🏭 Typical Applications

  • Diesel generator sets
  • Gas engine generator sets
  • Steam turbine generator systems
  • Gas turbine generator systems
  • Parallel generator installations
  • Standby and prime-power generation
  • Isolated bus generator systems
  • Base-loaded generator applications
  • Industrial power generation
  • Marine and auxiliary generator systems

🔄 Operating Modes

Isochronous Mode:
Used when constant prime-mover speed is required, including single-generator operation or multiple generators operating with an appropriate Woodward load-sharing system on an isolated bus.

Droop Mode:
Used for speed control as a function of load, particularly when operating a generator on an infinite bus or paralleling multiple prime movers.

Reverse-Acting Operation:
The 9907-019 is designed for reverse-acting applications. Because actuator behavior during loss of speed signal or control voltage is application-dependent, the existing governor configuration and approved Woodward procedures should be reviewed before commissioning or replacement.

🛠️ Installation & Maintenance

  1. Confirm the part number — Verify 9907-019 and the revision letter against the existing control.
  2. Check the power supply — Confirm that the installation provides the required 20–40 VDC low-voltage supply.
  3. Verify actuator type — The 9907-019 is configured for a single 0–200 mA actuator.
  4. Check speed-sensor wiring — Confirm the magnetic pickup or other speed-sensing device and shielded signal wiring.
  5. Verify CT/PT connections — Load-sharing circuits must correspond to the generator protection and metering arrangement.
  6. Confirm operating mode — Check whether the generator is configured for droop or isochronous operation.
  7. Verify speed range — Select the appropriate frequency range for the actual prime-mover speed and sensor characteristics.
  8. Inspect potentiometers — Record existing adjustment positions before making changes during troubleshooting or replacement.
  9. Perform functional testing — Check speed regulation, actuator response, load sharing, and generator paralleling functions before returning the system to service.
  10. Protect the electronics — Handle the control as an electronic circuit-board assembly and follow appropriate anti-static handling practices during maintenance.
