Product Description The Schneider Electric 416NHM30030 is a Modbus Plus Network Option Station (NOS) module designed for the Modicon Quantum hardware platform. This module acts as a high-speed communication gateway, allowing a Quantum PLC to communicate with other controllers, HMIs, and remote I/O devices over a Modbus Plus token-rotation network. It features dual ports to facilitate easy “daisy-chaining” or to provide a redundant cabling path for increased network reliability. The module manages all low-level network arbitration and error checking, offloading these tasks from the main CPU to ensure consistent scan times for the control logic.
Application Areas This module is primarily used in distributed control architectures where multiple PLCs need to exchange data at high speeds (peer-to-peer) or where a central controller needs to manage remote I/O drops. It is common in water treatment facilities, automotive production lines, and mining operations where a robust, deterministic industrial network is required over a medium-distance footprint.

Operational Precautions
- Address Settings: The Modbus Plus address (1-64) is set via hardware DIP switches on the rear or side of the module. Ensure no two devices on the same segment share an address, as this will cause a network “collision” and drop the token.
- Termination: Modbus Plus is a trunk-and-drop topology. Ensure that 120-ohm terminators are installed at the two extreme ends of the network cable to prevent signal reflections.
- Cable Selection: Use only approved Modbus Plus cable (typically shielded twisted pair with specific impedance). Using standard RS-485 cable may lead to intermittent communication errors or reduced distance.
- Grounding: The shield of the Modbus Plus cable should be grounded at one point only—typically at the main controller—to avoid ground loops that can induce electrical noise into the communication signal.
