WOODWARD 5466-258
Product Description
The Woodward 5466-258 is a high-performance Central Processing Unit (CPU) module designed specifically for the MicroNet TMR and MicroNet Simplex control systems. This module is the “intelligence” behind large-scale turbine control systems, providing the high-speed processing necessary for governing, fuel control, and sequencing.
In a TMR configuration, three of these CPU modules work in parallel. The system utilizes hardware and software “voting” to ensure that a single component failure does not result in a system shutdown, making it ideal for mission-critical power generation and mechanical drive applications. It features robust communication capabilities, allowing it to interface with HMI systems, Distributed Control Systems (DCS), and remote I/O via Ethernet and CAN bus.
Application Areas
- Steam Turbine Control: Managing valve positioning, speed governing, and extraction control.
- Gas Turbine Control: Handling complex fuel mapping, combustion monitoring, and start-up sequences.
- Large Compressor Sets: Surge protection and performance control for industrial compressors.
- Power Plant Protection: High-reliability sequencing where downtime results in significant financial loss.
Product Specifications
- Weight: 0.92 kg
- Dimensions: Standard MicroNet module width (occupies 1 slot)
- Protection: Conformal coated for industrial environments
- Cooling: Natural convection within the MicroNet chassis
- Country of Origin: USA
Operating Precautions
- Module Seating: Ensure the module is firmly seated and the top/bottom jackscrews are tightened. A loose connection to the VME-based backplane can cause “Bus Error” faults.
- Battery Maintenance: The CPU contains an internal battery for real-time clock and memory backup. Monitor the battery status through the Woodward AppManager software; replace only when the system is powered or after a full application backup.
- IP Addressing: When replacing a module, the Ethernet IP addresses must be manually reassigned to match the old unit to maintain HMI communication.
- Firmware Synchronization: In TMR systems, all three CPUs must run the exact same firmware and application version. Discrepancies will prevent the modules from “syncing” and will drop the system into a non-redundant state.
